FinOps Engineer

Location: Winnipeg, MB

The FinOps Engineer will be responsible for optimizing the financial performance of the WCB cloud infrastructure and applications. The FinOps Engineer will work closely with the Cloud and DevOps teams to identify cost-saving opportunities, optimize resource utilization, and develop financial reporting and governance mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimize the financial performance of the WCB cloud infrastructure and applications;
  • Collaborate with the Cloud and DevOps teams to identify cost-saving opportunities an d optimize resource utilization;
  • Develop financial reporting and governance mechanisms to track cloud spending and ensure compliance with budgetary constraints;
  • Implement best practices for cost optimization and provide guidance to Cloud and DevOps teams;
  • Continuously monitor and analyze cloud spending trends and identify areas for improvement; and
  • Educate stakeholders on the financial implications of their cloud usage and provide recommendations for cost-effective alternatives.

Minimum Relevant Experience

  • Five (5) years of relevant work experience in financial management, cloud cost optimization, or a related field.

Preferred Skills

  • Financial management and analysis;
  • Cloud cost optimization tools and techniques;
  • Cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP);
  • Cloud infrastructure and services such as virtual machines, containers, serverless computing, load balancing, auto-scaling, databases, and data storage services;
  • Infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM Templates.
  • Data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI; and
  • The FinOps Engineer should have experience in cloud cost optimizatio n and financial management. The FinOps Engineer should be able to i dentify cost-saving opportunities and develop strategies to optimize cloud spending. The FinOps Engineer should have a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and services, as well as experience with IaC tools.

In addition to the technical skills required for the role, the FinOps Engineer should possess strong communication and analytical skills. The FinOps Engineer will be responsible for educating stakeholders on the financial implications of their cloud usage and providing recommendations for cost-effective alternatives. The FinOps Engineer will have a proven track record of optimizing cloud spending and improving financial performance.
